If you have searched around this site much, you can't help but notice that I partner with many small businesses and companies that promote "Green Living".
I certainly do not tout that I am the healthiest of humans, but when it comes to renewable energy, green building, and eco-friendly lifestyles, I do place these high on my priority list.
The use of high efficiency HVAC systems or water heating systems, along with energy star appliances is one of the first discussions I have with investors looking to resale a rehab property. These should be a bare minimum when looking to be more eco-friendly, as well as giving the property that little bit more than the 100's of other properties on the market.
Going a step further, I have contacts with local companies that reuse/recycle many building materials. Old hard wood floors refurbished to near new and still cheaper than new. How about kitchen cabinets, counter tops, or complete bathroom's that are still very good condition, but came from a house that was being torn down. How about original replacement's for that historic home that you are trying to restore to original. All of these items can be found, thereby saving space in our landfills.
Paint, primer and other materials can also be purchased in an earth friendly formula (low or no VOC-Volatile Organic Material). This is great for homes where an adult or child lives that suffers form severe allergies or asthma.

If you love to read like I do, then I also invite you to get the new book from David Bach, author of the "Finish Rich" series, "Go Green, Live Rich". I thought this a very quick, outstanding read, with 50 great points to start living healthier and more energy efficient.
